The first person in her family to attend college, Eleanor Jacobs earned a bachelor's and master's degree in social work from St. Louis University.  Following her dream path, she has worked for 25 years in the charity  fundraising/social services field, five as a counselor and case manager and  twenty as an executive. She served as coordinator of the San Francisco Mayor's Office for the Homeless and in 1989 was selected as "Professional  Woman of the Year" by the San Francisco Association  of Business and Professional Women. In 1997 this enthusiastic, down-to-earth executive was  named "Most Influential Woman in the San Francisco Bay Area" by Business  Journal.

Eleanor is now writing a spin-off of her highly successful TEN PEARLS OF WISDOM book that was featured in Essence magazine's June 2000 issue. Warm, charming and encouraging, she is a gifted public speaker.

"Eleanor Jacobs is a remarkable woman." Anne Lamott, author of BIRD BY BIRD

"Written with clarity, humor and vision, Ten Pearls of Wisdom is the most powerful self-help guide I have ever read. Eleanor Jacobs clearly practices what she preaches. Pick up this book and thrive." -- Evelyn C. White, editor of The Black Woman's Health Book

Eleanor's Tip #2:

Having a one-size-fits-all resume is a job-hunting peril. It's so easy to expand on what you know about yourself and what you have accomplished, making your resume your opus and hoping it will fill the bill for every potential job. But try putting yourself in the prospective  employer's shoes. Imagine yourself as the frazzled and overloaded person looking for an employee. He or she doesn't need to know all about you. This person just needs to be able to grasp, in a few seconds, that you can do the job that needs to be done. Find out what the job is and what it entails, then specify on your resume the skills needed for the job that you possess. Outline your work history and send the resume. IN other words, tailor your  resume for each job for which you apply. Good luck!

Hi Fellow Dreamers:

I know many of you close your eyes each night and dream grand dreams of success. Maybe you want to recover from a divorce and make a better life for yourself and your family. (Been there!) Maybe you want to be the first in your family to attend college, as I was. Maybe you want to move beyond your minimum-wage job to rise to the ranks of management. Maybe you want to survive getting fired or laid off. Maybe you want to ensure that you and your husband can retire with adequate funds to enjoy the senior years of your life. Or maybe you want to be a doctor, a lawyer, a teacher, an artist, engineer, musician. I'm here for all of you.
Whatever your dreams, nothing would make me happier than to help you get where, in your heart of hearts, you want to be. That's why I wrote TEN PEARLS OF WISDOM - Achieving Your Goals & Capturing Your Dreams -- to place in the hands of all of you who have a burning desire to achieve your life's dreams the tools that enabled me to realize mine.
It is my goal that this website become a place for you to learn how to get started on the road to success, and a place to share your tips and insight. While you're here, be sure to sign my guestbook for a chance to win  the monthly drawing for a copy of TEN PEARLS. And while you're at it, why not tell me in the "Comments" section your story of overcoming adversity that you wouldn't mind sharing with others on this website. Also, I'd love to hear any tips you might have or resources to recommend that would help others on the road to their dreams.
Come back to visit often. I'll add new resources frequently and share others' stories as inspiration for your journey to success.
I look forward to helping you -- and to hearing from you.

Warmest regards--
